Why Some Men Prefer Girls With Blue Eyes

If you have blue eyes, you may prefer girls with blue eyes because it not only guarantee your children will have blue eyes but it will also confirm you are the parent; meaning your wife doesn’t cheat.

A recent study confirmed this; men with blue eyes prefer girls with blue eyes.

Why?

The study found by choosing girls with blue eyes, it “assures that a man’s children will have blue eyes” and more importantly children with blue eyes are an “indicator to the paternity of the child.”

In the study, “Why do blue-eyed men prefer women with the same eye color?“, close up photos of women and men with either blue or brown eyes were rated for their attractiveness by young women and men.

The men and women who participated in the study had brown or blue eyes themselves.

For the sake of this post, I’ll focus on how men reacted to girls with blue eyes.

The eye color of each model was manipulated in the photographs so that the same face would be shown with either the natural eye color (e.g., blue) or with the other color (e.g., brown).

Brown-eyed men showed no preference for either blue-eyed or brown-eyed female models.

However, blue-eyed men rated the girls with blue eyes as more attractive than the brown-eyed ones.

The study interpreted the preference in terms of “specific mate selective choice of blue-eyed men, reflecting strategies for reducing paternity uncertainty.”

What this means is that blue-eyed men prefer women with blue eyes because it’s one way to ensure that if they had children, the kids would have blue eyes.  More on that below.

In the second part of the study, 443 of young adults of both sexes and different eye colors (blue, brown, and green) were asked to report the eye and hair color of their romantic partners.

Their responses indicated the presence of a preference of eye color as well as, and to a lesser degree, for hair color.

Most importantly, blue-eyed male respondents were the group with the largest proportion of partners of same eye color.

The study concluded:

1. Blue-eyed men do prefer women with the same eye color.
2. Choosing females with blue eyes is a way for blue-eyed men to assure paternity (i.e., when the father’s and offspring’s genes match) as well as a defense against cuckoldry (i.e., when the genes do not match)

How does choosing a female with blue eyes ensure paternity for a blue-eyed man?

Simple, their children will have blue eyes.

Facts About Blue Eyes

Blue eyes are recessive, meaning that eyes only get to be blue in the absence of dominant brown eyed gene variants, and are therefore rarer than other eye colors.

If a couple is both blue-eyed, their child will have blue eyes.

It’s virtually impossible for two blue-eyed parents to have a brown-eyed child, but if the wife cheats on the husband and conceives a baby with a guy with any other eye color, the child is much less likely to have blue eyes.

The laws of genetics state that eye color is inherited as follows:

1. If both parents have blue eyes, the children will have blue eyes.
2. The brown eye form of the eye color gene is dominant, whereas the blue eye gene is recessive. Blue is found to be recessive to all grades of brown.
3. If both parents have brown eyes yet carry the gene for blue eyes, a quarter of the children will have brown eyes.

Final Thoughts

Men with blue eyes prefer women with blue eyes based on the study.  Maybe these men are simply attracted to girls with blue eyes or, as the study suggests, choosing a female with blue eyes is a good way to be sure your children have blue eyes and thus prove the father is not another man.

Unless of course, the girl has an affair with another guy with blue eyes.

Personally, I could care less what color a woman’s eyes are.  It’s the least physical part of a woman that I care about.

Girls with blue eyes, brown eyes, green eyes….I’ve never really thought about it.

A nice body?  Absolutely.

A killer smile?  Of course.

How about the hairstyle?  Eh, not a huge factor for me.

But the eye color?  Bah, not that important to me.

But some men are different.  Some men actually prefer women with a specific eye color; especially men with blue eyes.
