5 Steps To Create A Good Dating Profile For Men
A good dating profile attracts women in droves while a bad one sends them running for the hills. If you want to create a good dating profile, you'll need to put in a little work. It's not rocket science so don't underestimate the importance of your profile either.
The effort you put into your dating profile shows women how serious you are about finding a relationship. Putting in low effort shows you're too busy, too lazy, or don't care.
Dating sites give you fair warning about this. Below is the web page on POF when I wrote a message to a woman. The site tells you "...women READ your profile BEFORE they open your email..." and "...if your profile description is blank or super short you are 9 times more likely to get "unread deleted." In other words, your message is instantly deleted.
I got you covered. Below are 5 steps to create a good dating profile. Every section of your profile is essential so don't rush through creating it, and if you have one up already, it may be time to update it after reading the information below.
Step 1. Pick a good username.
Your username is one of the first things women see. When women search profiles your username is front and center:
Or maybe you sent a message to a woman. She'll check her inbox and see your username right next to your photo:
You don't want to type random letters and numbers nor do you want to use something confusing. A good username shows women you're worth getting to know.
Choose a hobby, passion, or something witty as a basis for your username. If you're smart, playful, or active for example, use one of those words in your username.
Your username may not flood your inbox, but a bad one will be the end of any chances for success.
Step 2. Create an eye-catching headline.
Dating profile headlines are vanishing, but a few dating sites still use them; POF for example. However, don't think a headline isn't important; it is.
One study found a great headline causes women to pause which exposes them longer to your photo. The study found this delay forces women to view your photo longer than they usually would which makes you more attractive.
You want your headline to be something positive, light and fun like this:
Unfortunately, most men choose to use a boring, lame, lazy headline like this:
Put some effort into your headline. Take a pen an paper, or use a word document, and jot down hobbies you enjoy, foods, drinks, or a guilty pleasure. Choose one as your headline. Easy.
Step 3. Choose good photos for your profile.
If you want to create a good dating profile, you need to use good photos. You should have at least five pictures which show you doing things you enjoy to give a little insight into your life.
What are good profile photos you ask? If you like to hike, add a picture of yourself on a trail. Are you a good cook? Perfect, add a photo of yourself in the kitchen. Do you participate in weekend sports? Great, add a picture of yourself doing this.
Stay away from selfies; especially shirtless selfies. Anything is better than a selfie. Zoosk found guys who use selfies receive nearly 10% fewer messages from women.
OkCupid found "people whose photos portrayed them doing something interesting were more likely to receive messages that led to a real conversation."
Show yourself having fun. Anything is fair game; singing karaoke, kayaking, playing at a park with your dog, jumping off a cliff, working around the house, dressed up for an important event, attending a street fair, traveling on an exotic beach. You get the idea.

Step 4. Answer your profile questions completely.
Most dating sites have you fill out questions about yourself;
- Are you religious?
- Do you want children?
- Do you smoke?
- What's your education level?
These are a few examples of the questions dating sites present to you. Below is an example of this on Match.com
Whatever dating site you're on, be sure to answer this section entirely. Every question impacts a woman's choice to contact you. Sure, some matter more than others, but women read each answer ensuring you're a match with them.
As an example, I share on my POF profile I'm not religious and started a conversation with one woman who read my profile and asked me this:
It's important to answer each question honestly and accurately so you'll be better matched up with potential partners. Lastly, dating sites use your answers to match you up with women as well.
You'll receive emails, such as your daily matches, with women your dating site has selected based on your answers. The bonus is your dating site will send your profile to women as their daily match as well. So, filling this section of your profile allows your dating site to expose you to more potential matches.
Step 5. Write a great self-summary section.
The last step to create a good dating profile is a well-written text section. The section where you write about yourself is the most critical section of your dating profile.
Match.com found nearly 70% of women will contact you based on this section of your profile alone. Why? Because your words will show women how serious you are about looking for a partner.
A well crafted, funny, informative, witty and yet serious "About me" section can have a significant impact on your success. Take some time when doing thing section. Don't just write "Just ask" or "I'll get back to this later" as so many other men do.
Choose a few of your passions or hobbies and write about them. Simple! Describe why you like them and how they make you feel as I do here when I share I enjoy cooking:
Do you see how much better that description is than writing "I enjoy cooking" on my profile? Take the time to share a little about your passions, and it will go a long way to impress women.
