Men’s Standard Drop for a Casual Relationship

I’m sure you know what a hookup is. It has many other names; no strings attached, one night stands, casual relationships, booty call, etc..

Here’s a shocker; men prefer casual relationship over women.

There are several studies that show this.

Findings from several studies include;

…men’s sexual fantasies are more likely to include multiple unfamiliar partners than are women’s sexual fantasies…

…men are more likely than women to report having had casual sex…

…men also express greater desire for casual sex than do women…

…a study of 16,288 people across 52 nations, demonstrated that men in every country expressed greater desire for more sexual partners than did women…

So, it’s not surprise that men prefer casual relationships.

But to what degree?

How far will a guy relax his standards to get laid?

One study found the answer and it’s not a good indication for us men.

Casual Relationship Study

The study, How Willing Are You to Accept Sexual Requests from Slightly Unattractive to Exceptionally Attractive Imagined Requestors?, examined how willing men and women were to accept sexual requests from slightly unattractive to exceptionally attractive imagined requestors?

The study used 427 men and 443 women from three countries; Germany, Italy, and the United States.

The participants filled a questionnaire and were asked to imagine a member of the opposite sex approaching them who they considered slightly unattractive, moderately attractive, or exceptionally attractive.

The participants were then asked to rate the likelihood that they would accept a request from the imagined potential partner to one of the following:

1. To go out tonight.
2. To come over to the apartment tonight.
3. To go to bed tonight.

Casual Relationship Study Results

The results were not surprising.

The men’s likelihood ratings exceeded the women’s by a large margin.

1. To go out tonight. Men 59.4% vs. Women 30.2%.
2. To come over to the apartment tonight: Men 53.6% vs. Women 9.5%.
3. To go to bed tonight: Men 45.8% vs. Women 4.2%.

The study found that men simply toss standards out the window when it comes to a casual relationship.

For the three scenarios men would accept a hookup regardless of the female’s attractiveness.

Women were much more selective.

Their willingness to accept the “go out tonight” offer increased with the attractiveness of the man.

A woman’s willingness for the “go to bed” or “come over” options was much higher for attractive men than for moderately or slightly unattractive men. Meaning women are more likely to have casual sex with an “exceptionally” attractive man over a less attractive man.

Conclusion

It’s no secret that men loosen their standards when it comes to hooking up. Some men even have zero standards. But that usually happens when alcohol is involved.

What I found interesting is that men completely relax their standards to even meet a woman for a date.

None of my friends do that so I actually found that surprising.
