The Happn dating app lets you start conversations with women you’ve crossed paths with in the "real world."  This means, if you're at the store shopping for food, the app will find female Happn users who are near your location at the same time you are so you can possibly start a conversation with the app.

Sites like Tinder and Bumble tell you how close women are to you in a general sense, but Happn takes it to another level.  It can literally point out women who are your neighbors, coworkers, or females who are near you at any point during your day.

The selling point of the Happn app is that it allows you to find women who possibly share common interests; meaning if you frequent a restaurant, bookstore, or coffee shop you'll be able to start conversations with those women if they are on the app.

If you want to use Happn you have to install it on your phone.  You can't use it on your desktop.  Here's what you do:

Download the Happn app from the app store or from the Happn website.  Once you download the app you can install it; it takes seconds.

You need to link Happn to your Facebook account to activate it.  Don't worry, it doesn't show up on your feed.  Happn will never post on your Facebook wall or notify your friends you're using it.

If you want to stop Happn from accessing your Facebook friends and photos, you can disable it when you set up your account.

Similar to other dating apps, you'll need to load photos.  You can load up to 9 photos to your profile from your phone storage, Facebook, Instagram, or use your camera phone to take pictures to upload.

You don’t need to write a lengthy bio on Happn, but you should write something; never leave your bio blank.  Keep your Happn bio short and on point.  Write a few sentences describing some of your passions and hobbies. 

You don't have as much room to write about yourself as you would on Match or OkCupid, but you have more than enough room to write about yourself.

Happn allows you to connect to your Instagram account and Spotify lists if you want to share more about yourself.  

Connecting your Instagram and Spotify gives women more insight into your lifestyle but be careful when linking your Instagram.  You don't want to show photos that are red flags to women; tons of pictures of you partying for example or photos with you alongside multiple women.

The Happn dating app is free... sorta.  Like most free dating apps it does have a cost to use beyond the basic features. 

If you try and message a woman directly, you will have to pay.  Women have to like you first if you if you want to message them for free.  More on that below.

Happn matches you up with women you’ve actually crossed paths with.  While Tinder will show women who are in your general area, Happn will show women who you've passed on the street; either walking or driving around.

I walk my dog daily in a park near my house, and I am regularly matched up with women who spend their time in the same park; either walking their dogs, spending times with their kids at soccer games or whatever else they’re doing  I have to admit, it’s kind of weird to have a dating app show your neighbors and it takes time to get used to.

If you don’t want to app matching you up with women while you’re at work, so your coworkers don’t know you’re on it, you can disable it in your "preferences":

The free version allows you to be in "invisible" mode for only 8 hours which is disappointing.  The Happn 8 hour invisible mode will automatically reset to "visible" once the 8 hours have passed.  I'd prefer the app let me use this mode until I decided to activate it again.

You can choose a longer time to remain invisible, but you have to pay for that feature; it's part of the "premium service package."

To start conversations with women you have to like the woman you're interested, and she has to like you.  Happn calls this a "crush."   So, Happn ensures you both like each other before any communication can occur.

To have a "crush," you must like a woman or send a "hello" to show her you're interested in her.

Once you both like each other, you can start having conversations like most dating apps:

Here are a few things I like about the Happn app:

• Quick setup time.
• You can match up with missed connections.
• You can contact women first even if they don’t "like you" (you have to pay for this feature).
• The basic service is free (you can only communicate with women who "like" you).
• It expands your ability to meet more women online.

There are a few things that may keep you from using the app.  These include:

• It has your location down to a "T."  If you have the app enabled, you could very well match up with people you work with, your church, family events, and whatnot.
• ​You can disable it, but it only does it in 8-hour increments.  So if you forget… it will come back on automatically.
• ​If you want to be proactive and send first messages, you have to pay for that feature. 
• You can't "search" for women who are within a specific distance of your location like traditional dating sites.  
• You have to pay the "premium" service to remain hidden longer or schedule it.

If you're OK with the Happn dating app pinpointing your exact location then sure, why not.  I always recommend guys join multiple dating sites to expand their dating pool.

If you use Happy you might stumble on a cool lady simply by shopping at the grocery store, walking around a park, grabbing a coffee, or even going to a movie.  You may luck out and meet someone.
