Pickable Dating App Review
The Pickable dating app allows women to browse men's profiles anonymously. Guys, on the other hand, have to create a profile and set themselves as "Pickable" for a specific time frame and wait for women to contact them.
Is Pickable a good way to meet women? How does the Pickable dating app work? Is Pickable any good? The answer is no; I cannot recommend Pickable at this time. Keep reading to find out why.
What is the Pickable dating app
The selling point about Pickable to women is they don't have to deal with men bombarding them with messages. Pickable gives women complete anonymity because women don't have to create a profile to search for men on the app.
The female users don't have to create a profile, upload photos, or enter any personal information to use the app. On the other hand, men must set up a profile and can't do any browsing or swiping. The only thing a guy can do is sit and wait for a woman to start a chat with him.
How to get the Pickable app
The Pickable dating app is available here. You can also visit Google App Store or iTunes and install it.
To activate Pickable, you'll just enter your phone number into the app, and you're ready to go.
How to set up a profile on Pickable
To set up your profile on Pickable you need do three things:
1. Install the app on your phone.
2. Load one photo.
3. Enable the app to use your GPS to share your location.
There's no long-winded profile creation process. You only need to load a single photo because that's all the app allows. There's no photo portfolio here to show your varied interests and hobbies.
Remember, you only load one photo so make it count. For 5 great photo tips, read my blog post, How To Take Good Dating Profile Photos For Men.
You can also add a sentence about yourself under your photo. I highly recommend you write something about yourself. Your photo is critical, but adding a short blurb will boost your results.
That's the extent of setting up a profile on Pickable. You can be up and running in under a minute.
How to use the Pickable app to meet women
Pickable will present your photo to women, and if they're interested, they can start a conversation with you. You have no idea who is looking at your bio. You can't make the first move on Pickable; similar to Bumble; women make the first move on the Pickable app.
Here's what you do to make your profile visible to women:
1. Click the "Become Pickable" button to begin your countdown.
Pickable will show your profile to women "near" you for 24 hours.
2. Sit back and wait.
If a woman likes you, she will initiate a chat request. You can accept the chat request to start a conversation, or you can deny it, meaning you aren't interested.
Note, once start chatting with a woman; you can continue your chat even after your 24-hour visibility window expires.
The Pickable dating app is bare bones. There's no filtering mechanism and no distance meter. Pickable states in their FAQ that they show you to women "nearby," but I was contacted by women hundreds of miles away. More on that below.
Beware: Pickable has fake women
I encountered a few bots or fakes disguised as women. I only traded messages with a handful, but like all dating sites, keep an eye open for signs the woman you're chatting with is real.
I discuss how to protect yourself from fakes on this blog post; How To Spot Scammers On Dating Sites And Protect Yourself.
In the conversation below I was able to see the person was fake by their bad grammar. The "person" below told me she was in New York and I'm in San Diego, had lousy grammar, and tried to push me to external communication quickly.
Does Pickable work?
I tested the app for several weeks. Did women start conversations with me? Yes. Was I able to get a phone number? Yup. There was one problem.
There aren't a lot of women on Pickable, so conversations were few and far between. Pickable will show you stats after your 24-hour window completes, and no more than 15 women (on average) saw my profile in that time-frame. I was seen by over 20 women just twice.
Remember, Pickable doesn't have a filtering mechanism, so it's safe to assume my profile is seen by whoever was online. 15 views in a 24-hour window is not a lot of exposure considering you can whip through hundreds of women on Tinder in a brief time.
As I mentioned, women did contact me, but the few conversations I did have were with women who weren't near me. I live in San Diego and had women contact me who lived in Arizona and Northern California; completely geographically undesirable.
Final Thoughts
I like the concept of Pickable, but can't recommend it as a primary way to meet women. You can put up a profile and show your profile to women in under a minute, and that's no joke. It's that quick to set up.
Pickable isn't a bad app, nor a bad idea, the problem is the app is new with not enough women on it. The app is free, and you can certainly use it as sort of an "out of sight, out of mind" way to possibly meet women.
Pickable shouldn't be your primary choice for meeting women. It's not even a good second choice. Think of Pickable as a quick way to put yourself out there with zero effort. You very may well start a conversation or two with women. Just don't put all your hopes into it to meet someone.
