3 Photos Scientifically Proven To Make You MORE Attractive!
1. Pictures of a dog.
One of the worst photos for men on Coffee Meets Bagel is pictures of a dog. It seems every dog owner thinks it's a good idea to add a picture of their pet by itself; it's not.
Look, I have a dog and love him more than anything. I get it. Dogs are awesome, but using a picture of just your dog is not a good idea.
A better idea is being in the picture with your dog. Yes, you must be physically in the picture alongside your pet. This is the only acceptable way to show your dog on Coffee Meets Bagel.
Lastly, use only one picture of yourself with your dog. There's no need to use more than one pet photo in your dating profile.
2. Fake poses.
Your photos in your Coffee Meets Bagel profile must be in the moment. Don't use pictures that appear phony or staged.
A classic example is a thinker "pose" or doing something that is clearly fake. Canned pictures like the one below do not help your results.
This is not time to act as if you're in a modeling shoot. Genuine photos taken at the moment perform better than fake ones.
3. Looking away from the camera.
In 2010, OkCupid recommended to not smile and not make eye contact with the camera. This supposedly made you more attractive. This tip is outdated and simply not true.
Photofeeler, a site that allows you to get feedback for photos, tested this myth. They matched OkCupid's sample size of over 7,000 photos running them through various scrips for the test. The site used its rating system to gauge "the success of the various types of photos (smiling, not smiling, eye contact, no eye contact)."
Photofeeler found there is "no one-size-fits-all photo strategy for all men." According to them, it's more important to determine what's appropriate and natural in context and to consider what characteristics you individually have to offer a mate.
Basically, it's a good idea to showcase what makes you unique. Photos of yourself engaging in your passions and interests are the best way to do this..
But back to the point at hand, you must look at the camera in your photos on Coffee Meets Bagel. Maintain eye contact and smile. It's simple!
The only time it's acceptable to not look at the camera is action shots. For example, surfing or riding a motorcycle. Otherwise, it's a good idea to always look at the camera.
4. Wearing sunglasses.
One of the first things women look at in a picture is a man's eyes. It's a shame that a high percentage of men choose to cover them with sunglasses.
Women want to see your eyes. In one survey, 88% of people viewing photos viewed the hottest pictures as those with the subject making eye contact with the viewer.
As the saying goes, "the eyes are the gate to the soul." Showcase one of your best assets, your eyes. Take off the sunglasses and look at the camera.
5. Dark or dimly lit pictures.
Light can drastically impact how you appear in photos. Dark photos alter what you look like, and not in a good way.
All too often, men use pictures where it's hard to see what they look like. Sometimes it makes them appear as if they're lurking in the shadows - this is not a good first impression.
Avoid pictures taken at a bar or club. Don't use pictures taken outside in the evening. It's better to use photos with natural light. Always.
6. Pictures of yourself as a kid.
I have no idea why men use pictures of themselves as a child. Pictures of yourself as a toddler do not make you more likable. Women want to see what you look like now, not 20 years ago.
Look in your mirror. Next, look at your picture. Do you look like the person in the mirror? If yes, add the photo to your profile; otherwise, don't use it.
7. Bad group photos.
It's a great idea to add a group photo to your Coffee Meets Bagel photo portfolio. Make sure the viewer can easily identify you in the picture.
The best way to stand out is by positioning yourself in the center of a group photo. People generally focus on the center of a picture full of people - this is why you must stand in the center.
Most guys use bad group photos. There are too many other people in the picture, making it hard to figure out who is who.
Women don't have time to go through photos attempting to identify you. Make it easy for them. Put yourself in the center, with one person to either side of you.
Lastly, no women in your photos. Women in your pictures take the focus away from you, which is the last thing you want.
8. Inconsistent appearance in photos.
Make sure there's congruency with your profile photos. This means you should look similar in all your pictures.
Do not use a picture where you have long hair and a beard in one, and in another, you're clean-shaven with short hair. Also, pay attention to your weight. You don' want to look heavy in a photo compared to another.
Women notice differences in pictures. It's a huge red flag if your appearance is not consistent. Women will think, "which photo is current" which is the last thing you want.
Take a look at your photos. Make sure you look similar in them. Ask a friend to look at your for a second opinion if you must.
9. Pictures inside of a car.
Don't use a picture taken inside of a car. I know it's easy to whip out your camera and take a car selfie, but don't do it.
I recommend "in the moment" photos for your profile - outside on a hike, at a concert, dinner with friends, swimming somewhere, etc. These types of photos are engaging. They paint a picture of your life to women viewing your profile.
A picture inside a car is meaningless. It doesn't make you attractive to women and is an awful first impression.
10. Photos you're not physically in.
I have one simple rule for all photos in your dating profile. If you're not physically in the picture, don't use it.
I already mention staying away from pictures of just your dog. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. You would be shocked how many men use pictures that don't have them physically in the picture.
All too often, men use one of these pictures. You don't want to use any of these types of pictures in your profile:
- A car, motorcycle, or boat.
- Quotes.
- A beach, lake, mountain
- Food.
- A drink (beer, cocktail, wine).
- Celebrities.
- The moon.
Never use a picture that you're not in. No woman will look at a picture of a lake, for example, and swipe right.
Below is an example of something a guy felt was a great idea for his profile. This type of photo is NOT an acceptable way to sell yourself on a dating app.
