5 ChatGPT Conversation Starter Tips For Men
Did you know that ChatGPT has conversation starter tips on dating apps? I tested ChatGPT asking for help starting conversations with women on apps.
This post shares 5 ChatGPT conversation starter tips for any dating app. I break down the tips and share examples of icebreakers on several dating apps.
Tip #1 - Ask a profile question.
ChatGPT's tip for asking a question is ak the other person a question about something in their profile, such as their interests or favorite hobbies. This shows that you're interested in getting to know them and gives them an easy way to respond.
This is common sense and a no-brainer. Most men send low-effort icebreakers like the one below, that result in a low response rate from women.
Most men get few responses as a result of using low-effort icebreakers. ChatGPT hits the nail, stating you should ask a woman about something in her profile.
Asking a woman about an interest in her profile shows her that you took the time to read her bio. She'll appreciate the effort and is more likely to respond to your opener.
Your message will stand out in a woman's inbox because all the other men say, "hello," "how are you today," or "hey there." She can't help but respond because a profile question is unique.
To start a conversation, what should you focus on in a woman's profile? Anything a woman shares in her profile is fair game for starting a conversation.
Focus on a woman's favorite show, music, food, and weekend activities. Look at her photos for clues; maybe you see she's on a hiking trail; ask her about it.
In the example below on Tinder, Erin shares in her bio that she enjoys craft beer. I use that topic in my icebreaker to start a conversation.
My message above is simple, yet it gets a response. Stop using low-effort openers and show curiosity about the woman's profile - it will boost the likelihood of a response.
Tip #2 - Mention shared interests.
The second ChatGPT conversation starter tip is, If you both have something in common, such as a shared interest or background, mention it in your message. This can provide an instant connection and give you a starting point for the conversation.
Mentioning a common interest in your opener is a great way to get a response because it shows you have something in common. Below is an example from POF with Paige.
In the example above, I start a conversation with Paige by mentioning a tropic in her bio - road trips. Note how I show curiosity about the topic and share something about myself.
You can see that Paige finishes her response by asking me a question, which shows she's interested in getting to know me. Anything women share in their profile is fair game for starting a conversation - examples include:
- You're from the same hometown/college.
- Similar hobbies/interests - hiking, traveling, game nights, local concert venues, etc.
- Favorite shows, films, musicians.
- Similar taste in foods or drinks.
- Pets - dog owners love talking about their pets.
- Landmarks/locations in photos.
Sharing something in common is a fabulous tip for starting conversations on any app. I recommend glancing through a woman's bio, prompts, or photos and choosing a topic to focus on in your icebreaker.
Tip #3 - Be playful in your icebreaker.
The next tip from ChatGPT focuses on humor. It says You can start the conversation with a playful comment or joke that relates to something in their profile. Just make sure it's appropriate and not too forward or flirtatious.
Joking about something in a woman's profile is a great way to break the ice because it showcases your humor. You're off to a fabulous start if you can make a woman laugh.
Warning: humor is subjective, so make sure it's easy to understand. Don't use obscure lines from a movie or book - they may go over the woman's head.
As ChatGPT says, make sure your comment is appropriate. Have self-awareness because you don't want to offend women with a bad joke.
Tip #4 - Give a compliment in your opener.
Complimenting women is the next conversation starter tip from ChatGPT. It says this about compliments; if you're attracted to something about the person's profile, such as their smile or sense of humor, let them know. However, be sincere and specific in your compliment.
I agree with this tip by ChatGPT for complimenting something non-physical; a sense of humor, for example. But you should never compliment a woman's appearance in your icebreaker.
Women are bombarded with messages from men complimenting their looks. You'll be rejected instantly by the majority of women when complimenting their appearance.
It's better to compliment something non-physical. You're more likely to get a response to your message complimenting her energy or active lifestyle.
Below is an example on OkCupid showing how to perfectly execute a compliment in an icebreaker. I compliment Sandra's active lifestyle, which is a great way to start a message.
Women appreciate a compliment when it's sincere. So, don't force one because it won't work.
Tip #5 - Make a recommendation based on a mutual interest.
The final ChatGPT tip is focusing on a similar interest - If you both have a mutual interest listed in your profiles, mention it and ask if they've tried it out lately or what they like most about it.
Referencing a mutual interest is great advice. Dating apps also recommend this approach - Hinge found "the best way to get a response is to ask a direct question about your match's profile while sharing your interests."
The majority of men tell women they have common interests. Below is an example on Tinder of a guy saying he has the same interests as the woman, which is the wrong approach.
So what's wrong with telling a woman you have common interests? There's no proof - women aren't going to take your word for it.
Telling a woman you have common interests puts all the effort on her to figure out what these interests are. Don't expect a woman to look at your photos and bio to look for something in common.
A better approach is mentioning something in the woman's profile and diving into it. Below is an example from Coffee Meets Bagel.
In the example above, I ask about the woman's favorite trail in San Diego. I use this approach because she shares she enjoys hiking in her profile.
I share a few local trails that I enjoy visiting. Note how I finish my message - I ask the woman if she's been to either trail.
Asking a follow-up question in your opener is a great way to get the woman engaged in the message. She's more likely to respond by a direct question.
Here are a few recommendations for this type of approach:
- When a woman says she enjoys sushi, ask about her favorite spot and what she likes about it.
- If a woman enjoys wine, share one of your favorites and ask her if she's had it.
- A woman may mention a favorite show - recommend a similar one asking if she's seen it.
These types of approaches boost the likelihood of a response. You're digging a little deeper with this opener which is why it's so effective at getting responses from women.
Final Thoughts
The conversation starter tips that ChatGPT recommends are sound, and I agree with them for the most part. The exception is complimenting a woman's looks, her smile, for example
