Online Dating Algorithm’s Don’t Work
Every dating site has some sort of mathematical algorithm to identify potential partners for you. For example, OkCupid uses “Match Percentages” in their algorithm which calculates how much users have in common.
These online dating algorithms are proprietary and dating sites don’t reveal how they determine your matches.
According to one study, Online Dating: A Critical Analysis From the Perspective of Psychological Science, these online dating algorithms don’t work.
The study found dating sites cannot predict how people will act once they meet someone that they are matched with. “We are not optimistic that mathematical matching algorithms can be especially effective at finding compatible partners for users” the study states.
You don’t know how that woman talks or acts. How intelligent she is. Or if you are a sexual match.
Online dating algorithms simply cannot predict if a relationship will be successful or not.
My Match.com Algorithm Experiment Part 1
I wanted to see for myself how well Match.com would match me up with women, so I created a fake profile. I didn’t use the search tool so the site couldn’t use my prior search history in factoring my matches.
I wanted to let Match.com choose my potential matches. This was going to be based on my dating profile alone.
I indicated on my dating profile that I was only seeking Asian women. That’s it. No other ethnicities.
It was up to the online dating algorithm of Match.com to hook me up with Asians because that’s what I indicated I wanted on my dating profile.
Would Match.com match me up with only Asian women? Nope.
I took a screenshot of the 12 women and you can see that only 1 of the 12 are Asian.
Match.com failed to match me up with what I wanted on my dating profile.
My Match.com Algorithm Experiment Part 2
I then decided to test Match’s online dating algorithm by focusing on children on my dating profile.
I indicated on my profile I didn’t want a woman who had children and wanted a woman who wanted to have kids.
I then patiently waited for my next email from Match with my 16 new matches.
As soon as I got my new matches I looked at their profiles. Of the first 8 women they sent me, only 2 matched what I wanted on my dating profile.
It only got worse after that. 1 of the final 8 women matched my preferences.
Out of a total of 16 women, Match.com’s online dating algorithm, only 3 matched what I listed on my dating profile.
Final Thoughts
My experiment was by no means scientific. It was based on two simple settings yet Match.com failed to match me with the woman I specified I wanted on my dating profile.
There’s simply no science between online dating algorithm’s.
When it comes to finding a match I suggest you simply search for what you are looking for.
You don’t know how these dating sites are matching you up so don’t rely on their choices for you.
Use the search tools on your dating site to refine your search so that you can find what you are looking for.
The woman you want is out there so get online and find what you are looking for.
