Science Looks At Why Women Fake Orgasms

Do you wonder why women fake orgasms? Well, a study dived head first into the topic to figure out what drives women to fake it. And that’s not all.

The study also found a few more interesting things that you may not be aware of; including how often women fake it during sex. So if you’ve ever wondered if your lady is faking it, read on.

Female Orgasm Study

The study, Evidence to Suggest that Copulatory Vocalizations in Women Are Not a Reflexive Consequence of Orgasm, set out to investigate female “vocalizations” during sex and their relationship to orgasms.

“Vocalizations” meaning a variety of noises including moaning, groaning, saying words, saying their partner’s name, yelling out “yes” or “more”, or giving their partner instructions….you get the idea.

71 women participated in the study. Each woman had experienced and orgasm at some point in their life. The women were between 18 – 48 years old.

Each woman completed a questionnaire that consisted of questions such as their relationship status, sexual history, methods by which their orgasm was achieved(self-masturbation, oral sex, intercourse, etc..), frequency of their orgasms, when the orgasms occurred(foreplay, intercourse, before partner orgasms, etc…) among other things.

The women were also asked how often they made the above mentioned “variety of noises” during sexual intercourse.

Study Results

100% of the women said they had experienced an orgasm when “engaging in a variety of sexual activities” however, not all methods were always used. For example, a lot of women shared that their partner didn’t manually “stimulate them.”

25.3% of the women said they made noises like they were going to orgasm when they weren’t actually going to do so over 90% of the time, 56.2% of the women made noises when they weren’t going to have an orgasm over 70% of the time, and 79.1% of the women did the same, faking it over 50% of the time.

That’s right, nearly 80% of the women fake orgasms HALF the time they had sex.

The reasons the women fake orgasms and made noises were:

66% of the women said they did so to speed up their partner’s orgasm. The reasons varied from boredom, fatigue, and discomfort/pain, as well as because of time.

Interestingly 92% of the women felt “very strongly” that their vocalizations boosted their partner’s self-esteem and 87% of the women indicated they were vocal during sex for this very reason.

Finally, 68% of the women responded positively that they would stay with a partner even if they never reached an orgasm.

Final Thoughts

So what makes women fake orgasms? In the end, the studies revealed that the majority of orgasms for women were the result of “self-manipulation” and the least amount of orgasms were due to “vaginal penetration.”

While most orgasms for women happened during foreplay, the noises that women use to show they are having an orgasm were while the man was having an orgasm. This shows that there’s at least some element of “conscious control” giving the women an opportunity to “manipulate male behavior to their advantage.”

So, those screams of passion women have may just be because they’re trying to boost your confidence, or even worse….they’re bored. Yikes!
