An Average Looking Girl May Be Hotter Than You Think

Let’s just get this out of the way, hotter women make other women appear less attractive to you.

Do you know whose fault it is?

The media of course.

You are constantly bombarded by attractive women on television, the internet, movies, magazines, billboards, etc…

The end result is you may be less satisfied with your wife, girlfriend, or potential partner after seeing an attractive woman.

One study, Contrast Effects and Judgments of Physical Attractiveness: When Beauty Becomes a Social Problem, examined how exposure to extremely attractive women influence male’s judgments of an average looking girl.

Average Looking Girl Rated After Watching How Women on TV

The first thing to know is that the study was performed in the 1970’s but the results still hold true today.

Male members of a college dormitory at Montana State University were asked to judge a potential blind date after watching TV shows.

Some of the males watched the TV program “Charlie’s Angels” and the other males watched another show.

Ok, so we’re talking about an old show but the women in Charlie’s Angels are still hot. And back then they were rock stars.

After viewing the shows the males were asked to judge a photo of a potential blind date of an average looking girl.

The males who watched Charlie’s Angels rated the girl in the photo as less attractive than the males who watched the other TV show.

The beautiful women in Charlie’s Angels had a negative impact on the blind dates photo.

Average Looking Girl Rated After Seeing Picture of Model

In the second part of the study, male participants at Montana State University were asked to give first impressions after viewing a yearbook photo of an average looking girl.

While the instructions were being given to some of the participants a black and white advertisement photo of an attractive female was shown by the experimenter. The experimenter pointed at the photo as an example of first impressions.

The rest of the participants were not shown the black and white advertisement photo during the instructions .

Following the instructions all participants were shown a photo of an average looking girl and asked to fill out a “personality rating” sheet which included a scale for “beautiful – ugly.”

The results were that the photo of the average looking girl was rated significantly less beautiful following exposure to the attractive woman in the advertisement photo.

Final Thoughts

The study may be old but the results are just as applicable today as when they were when published over 30 years ago.

Times may have changed but how we view women have not.

Your initial impressions of potential romantic partners may be adversely affected if you happen to have recently been exposed to posters, magazines, television, the internet, or movies showing highly attractive females.

This can impact your online dating decisions and results.

The hotter women on dating sites receive the most emails. The better looking women get the most attention online.

You more than likely have viewed many profiles of hot women. I certainly have.

The problem is that after viewing pictures of the hotties you may actually downgrade an attractive average looking girl’s profile because you are comparing her to all the hotties you just viewed.

That average looking girl may not really be average.

You may have been influenced by the prior hot girls picture.

Just keep the results of this study in the back of your mind next time you browse dating profiles. Just a little food for thought….
