Dinner is Out, Coffee Dates are In!

When you meet a woman for the first time off a dating site what is your “go to” type of date?

Drinks? Dinner? Coffee?

A couple of surveys by a few dating sites show women may prefer coffee dates over the traditional dinner or cocktail meet and greet.

Coffee Dates vs. Dinner Dates

The website Datingadvice.com did a survey where 1,080 people responded over a 3 week period.

The survey found women were three times as likely to choose coffee dates over traditional drinks for a first date.

Women were 18 percent more likely than men to choose coffee for the first romantic meeting as well.

The survey even broke it down on a racial level; Asian-Americans were 50% more likely to pick coffee as a first date.

Married and divorced people preferred a coffee date 40% of the time while singles came in 30%.

I’m curious why “married” people were included in the survey, but maybe that’s another story.

Zoosk also did research and found coffee dates beat dinner dates for a first time meeting.

67% of Zoosk members said that having a “casual conversation over coffee” would be an ideal first date with someone they met off a dating site.

Going out to dinner was second at 24%.

Nearly 72% of people surveyed by Zoosk said that that meeting for coffee can be just as romantic as a fancy dinner.

Final Thoughts

Let me start off by saying you should NEVER meet for dinner for a first date.

I learned early on that meeting for dinner for a first date is a huge mistake. There is nothing worse than having dinner and having no connection with the woman you are on a date with. It’s awkward. The length of the date feels like an eternity. It can be uncomfortable. Conversations can be unbearable.

One date like this will make you wish you had just met for coffee.

Take it from me, it’s best to have a quick first meeting rather than a long dinner. And it’s easier on your wallet as well.

Meeting for a drink or coffee is a great way to get face to face time in a quick manner.

You’ll know if there is chemistry and attraction. If all goes well you could keep the date going if you hit it off.

If there’s no chemistry the date will be over soon enough. Quicker than a dinner I can assure you that.

From a personal standpoint, I always opt for drinks first and coffee as a second choice if the woman doesn’t drink alcohol.

I prefer alcohol because well, I enjoy it, but I find it can loosen the date and lighten things up.

However, the survey’s above show that choosing coffee dates as a first option may be the way to go.

You can’t go wrong with either choice.
