Fun First Date Ideas? Drinks (or coffee) is your only option.
Looking for Fun First Date Ideas? Drinks are your best, and only option. Save money and time by meeting over a cocktail and keep it simple!
Match.com did a study and found having drinks boosts your odds by 137% for a second date. Save the creative dates for your second date. Don’t get me started about dinner. Never do dinner for a first date.
Everyone Else Is Giving Bad Advice
I can’t tell you how many articles I have seen on the internet about fun first date ideas that men can plan to impress women. Askmen.com has ideas such as bowling, dinner, and a carnival among other things.
Who the hell takes someone to a carnival for a first date? To be fair, Askmen.com listed drinks and coffee as suggestions. More on that later.
AYI.com recommends lazer tag, boating, and stargazing among other things as fun first date ideas. Stargazing? Are you kidding me?
POF suggests a sporting event, hiking, a picnic, a cooking class, and a painting class among other things.
The people who wrote these articles probably have good intentions. Maybe they are trying a different approach to typical first dates and stepping outside the box to come up with something creative to impress women.
Nonsense. They’ve clearly never been on a date where they had zero chemistry with the other person.
Here is my advice for a first date: Drinks, drinks, drinks, drinks, drinks. If the woman you are pursuing doesn’t drink alcohol, fine…Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee.
Why Drinks Are Your Best Option
Meeting for drinks is a quick way to see if there is chemistry, attraction, and an actual desire to spend more time together. You want to establish a rapport with the woman and what better way than drinks.
If she doesn’t drink or is hesitant to meet over cocktails, coffee is a solid alternative. Meeting for coffee also has the perk of being a day date that you can continue on the patio.
I try and stay away from being inside a coffee shop because most coffee shops seem like study halls with people on their computers. It can feel like everyone is listening in on your conversation.
All Other First Date Choices Stink
As mentioned above, AYI.com mentioned boating as one of their fun first date ideas. Let’s look at this first date option and why it’s a bad idea.
Imagine you’ve been talking to a girl on Match.com. You get her number and text her a few times. You talk on the phone and seem to hit it off. So you ask her to join you on a boat. She agrees to meet you there.
You more than likely don’t own a boat, so you have to rent one. Maybe you don’t know how to sail or simply don’t want to be the one steering the boat so you have to hire someone to steer you around, adding more to the cost of the date. Maybe you find a deal on Groupon for a boat rental.
Any way you look at it, a boat date is going to cost you money. But you have to provide more than just the boat. You need to get some snacks and drinks as well. Yet another cost.
Finally, the day comes where you meet her for the first time. You wait at the boating dock for her and she calls you and says “I’m here” and you see her approaching you. As she gets closer, to your horror, she looks nothing like her pictures. Maybe she’s 20 pounds heavier. Yes, this happens.
Or maybe she looks like her pictures but as soon as you spend a few minutes together there is zero chemistry. You have nothing to talk about. You know what comes next, the long periods of awkward silences.
It happens. Now you are stuck with her for 2 hours and have invested money and time that you could have avoided had you met just for drinks.
Now, this scenario can apply to anything; going to a farmers market, walking around a park, going on a hike, attending a festival, etc…
Can you imagine taking a woman to a sporting event as a first date, paying for tickets, and finding out you have NOTHING in common? You’ve more than likely paid for the tickets to the event, parking, food, and drinks.
And more importantly your time! You’ve wasted hours of time with someone you know you aren’t a fit for when meeting for drinks would have reduced your cost of time and cash significantly.
Final Thoughts
Here’s a fact; one study found in 2016 the average American man spent $1,855 on his dating life. No doubt if you do this you are meeting women for dinner or other expensive activities on your first date.
Your best option for your first date is a date over drinks or coffee. Both are a quick way to determine if the attraction is there or not. If you want, pick a place where there are fun things to do around your initial date. That way, if you hit it off, you can continue the date elsewhere.
You can scope out locations on Yelp; one study found 84% of singles say they use tools like Yelp to review potential date venues. Remember; DRINKS! Always!
