How To Create A Good Dating Profile Headline
A good dating profile headline can share a guilty pleasure, challenge women, and create curiosity. A headline is a great way to grab a woman's attention, so it's important to put effort into one.
Not many apps use a headline these days, Plentyoffish being the primary one. However, you should still use a headline at the top of your bio regardless of the app you use.
This post shares 5 dating profile headlines that make a fantastic first impression. Using the tips below will boost likes, increase responses, and in many cases, women will contact you first.
1. Share a guilty pleasure.
The first type of headline you can use is sharing a guilty pleasure. A guilty pleasure is defined as "an activity or piece of media that someone enjoys but would be embarrassed by if other people found out about it."
Everyone has a guilty pleasure - it can be anything. Below are examples of various guilty pleasures a guy could use in his profile.
- Watching The Bachelor.
- Scrolling through Tik Tok videos.
- Eating Cheetos.
- Sleeping in on Sundays.
- Adding a splash of Bailey's to your morning coffee.
- Enjoying any movie with zombies.
You only need to include one of your guilty pleasures, so don't use a list. A guilty pleasure is a great way to connect with women on apps.
Below is an example of a message from a woman on Coffee Meets Bagel. I used the headline, "Brown sugar Pop-Tarts are my guilty pleasure," in my bio.
2. Use a curiosity-based headline.
One of my favorite approaches for a headline is using a curiosity-based headline. You share something regarding a topic, but not the whole picture.
The lack of information in a sentence creates curiosity with the woman reading the headline. Essentially, this is clickbait - and it works!
Take this sentence, "I know the best spot in town for margaritas." Notice how I don't name the location but instead use a vague description, "the best spot."
You can see the message above from Maria on Bumble. She couldn't help but reach out to me to find out where the best margaritas in San Diego are located in the city.
A curiosity-based headline is a great choice. Use the name of your city when describing something. Below are examples I would use for San Diego:
- I know the best spot in San Diego for happy hour.
- I know the best spot in San Diego for sushi.
- I know the best spot in San Diego for Thai food.
It's simple - choose something fun in your city. This type of headline is an excellent choice if you know a great spot in your town for something cool that women enjoy.
3. Ask for help finding something.
The previous headline tells women you know the best spot in town for something. With this headline, you do the opposite - ask for help finding something in your town.
Let's take the examples in the curiosity-based section above. Instead of saying we know the best location for something, we can change them to ask for help find the best spot in town:
- I'm still looking for the best spot in San Diego for happy hour.
- I'm still looking for the best spot in San Diego for sushi.
- I'm still looking for the best spot in San Diego for Thai food.
Asking for help finding something in your city works fabulously. Below is an example from OkCupid where I used the headline, "I'm still looking for the best carne asada in San Diego."
Women can't help themselves from telling you where to find something related to your headline. This is a great way to get women to send you an icebreaker.
4. Issue women a challenge!
Another good dating profile headline is challenging women to something. Do this in a fun way; don't be a cocky jerk.
Don't be afraid to bring out your competitive side with this headline. Surely, you're good at something. Issue a challenge like these headlines:
- I'm 100% certain I can beat you at any board game.
- I'm 100% certain I can beat you in a cooking contest.
- I'm 100% certain I can beat you at any pub game (pools, shuffleboard, darts).
This is a somewhat risky headline; it may be off-putting to some women as they see you being competitive. But others will connect, like the woman below commenting on my board game challenge.
If you're not competitive, you can still use this approach. Twist the words somewhat; "I'm 100% certain I'll beat you in a cooking contest... OK, maybe 47% certain, but you'll be entertained with laughter and wine, guaranteed!
5. Describe yourself confidently.
Another good headline using a confident description of yourself. Be bold, so your headline grabs a woman's attention.
Tack on a sentence like one of these at the top of your bio. Any of these is a great way to introduce yourself.
- Slightly mischievous, always dapper...
- Always gregarious, somewhat devilish...
- Charming, adventurous, educated, confident, and colorful.
Pick words that describe yourself, but make sure they aren't similar. For example, don't say "handsome, attractive, fit, and good-looking" because they are all physical descriptions.
Choose no more than 4-5 words in your description. It's good to be cocky but not arrogant.
