How to Attract Girls: The Key May Be Your Scent

All men want to know how to attract girls. The answer is simple, focus on their sense of smell.

Ditch expensive cologne. Forget pheromones. Get vanilla beans and put them in your pocket.

Vanilla is the number 1 preferred scent among women in the United States. Coffee is number 2, according to a survey commissioned by Axe body products which was conducted by Alan Hirsch, a doctor, and founder of Chicago’s Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation.

Survey Findings

Axe commissioned a survey of thousands of women across 10 major U.S. cities with one goal, find the scents women liked the most.

Below are the results for the 10 cities surveyed for female scent preferences:

1. New York City — Coffee
2. Los Angeles — Lavender
3. Chicago — Vanilla
4. Houston — Barbecue
5. Atlanta — Cherry
6. Phoenix — Eucalyptus
7. Philadelphia — Clean Laundry
8. Dallas — Smoke/Fireplace
9. San Diego — Suntan Lotion/Ocean
10. Minneapolis-St. Paul — Cut Grass

Why is vanilla so appealing? Hirsch says “vanilla has a safe and secure feeling” noting that many nipples on baby bottles use vanilla flavoring which results in women associating the smell of vanilla with a feeling of comfort later in life.

He also adds that vanilla may not sexually arouse women but women may want to smell it on men because “it will make them feel more relaxed and more secure” and “unconsciously feel more positive toward the man as a result.”

More Scent Related Facts

If the top 10 scents that women find attractive wasn’t enough, another survey of 1000 women found the following:

56% of women won’t date a guy who smells like their dad.

25% will wait 2 weeks to a month before washing their sheets in order to keep their guy’s scent under the covers.

66% would be more likely to make out with a guy on the first date if he smelled good.

50% of the women say they have taken an article of clothing from a guy to smell when he’s gone.

58% say they sleep in their guy’s clothes because they like the “lingering aroma.”

60% still remember the smell of their ex’s cologne.

Final Thoughts

Women have different tastes when it comes to a man’s scent.

You may think the results from the surveys show you how to attract girls but not all of the results will work for you.

I live in San Diego and the survey found that women in San Diego find suntan lotion to be the most appealing scent. There is no way I would wear suntan lotion on a date.

Take the results with a grain of salt. The top scent in Houston is the scent of barbecue for goodness sake. Are you really going to slather on barbecue sauce to impress a woman? Of course not.

The survey does have results you can use though.

When you pick up a date, spray a little vanilla scent in your car to give it an appealing smell. Or maybe use vanilla scented candles when you have female guests over. Lavender is an option as well.

You should always have an appealing scent when you are around women. After all, 2/3 of women will make out with you on a first date if they find your scent appealing.
