Science has proven that you can impress women instantly by showing selfless concern for others.

One study, “Are Women’s Mate Preferences for Altruism Also Influenced by Physical Attractiveness?“, found women preferred men, particularly for long-term relationships, who displayed “altruistic” acts. In fact, men who were seen as “less attractive” were made MORE desirable for long-term relationships because of selfless acts.

Handsome Jerks Vs. Less Attractive Nice Guys

202 women participated in the study through SurveyMonkey.com. The women were shown photographs of men who were rated as every handsome or not so attractive.

Each photo was presented along scenarios where the man was behaving in a “kind, altruistic manner or a manner with very little altruism.” In these scenarios the men either helped someone or dissed them entirely (see example below).

Directly underneath each scenario, the women were asked were two questions that related to the men in the photos. The women were asked how attractive the man was for two types of relationships; long-term or short-term; short-term being a brief affair or a one-night stand while long-term being a committed romantic relationship.

Study Results

The handsome jerks were chosen for short-term relationships, aka one-night stands, which comes as no surprise, but women preferred men who were selfless more for long-term relationships.

Even more shocking was that the desirability of less attractive men who displayed high acts of selflessness was higher than that of handsome men who displayed low concern for others. So, the less handsome guys were rated as more desirable over the handsome jerks. Take that Stan Gable! Bonus points if you get that reference.

Final Thoughts

I’m not here to preach but you should show unselfish regard for others. The added benefit though is that these actions impress women instantly and make you more attractive for a relationship.

The study shows, you can be unattractive and appeal to women at a high level when you show concern for others. The best way is to volunteer for something. You should volunteer for the right reasons anyway but the added benefit is that by sharing it on your dating profile, you will no doubt make a great impression to women. Women will find you more appealing for a long-term relationship.

Why? Maybe showing concern for the welfare of others shows women that you are potentially a good partner with good parenting qualities. Facts are facts; you will impress women instantly by showing selfless acts like volunteering for something.
