3 Ways You Can Get More Responses On Apps
Do you need help starting conversations on apps like Tinder and OkCupid? You can get more responses on dating apps with a few changes to your approaches.
With a few tweaks, you can increase the likelihood women answer your messages. I don't care how old you are or what app you use; these tweaks work.
This post shows you 3 ways you can get more responses on dating apps. I'll show you examples of what to do that work on every dating app.
Check your profile BEFORE sending messages.
Before sending a message, you must ensure you're profile is not just good but great. If your profile is bad, it won't matter how good your icebreaker is. Women won't respond.
Women look at your profile before responding to your message. Here are a few facts:
- Hinge found 57% of women said they didn't respond to men's messages because they "took a closer look at the person's profile..."
- Tinder found the top 10% of the most LIKED profiles were 35% longer than the rest.
- Women spend 50% more time than men analyzing profiles than men.
Your profile is critical for success on all dating apps (yes, even on Tinder). Don't underestimate its importance.

1. Start off with a compliment.
A great way to get more responses on a dating app is by starting your message with a compliment. It's as simple as telling the woman, "I love..." then point something out. Things you can say include:
- "I love your energy.."
- "I love that you're active..."
- "I love your verbal vibe..."
Stay away from physical compliments. Most guys take the easy route and tell women how pretty there are. This is a huge blunder.
If you think telling a woman she's cute works, think again. Here's what happens when you tell a woman she's pretty (or anything similar).
- Beautiful (20% fewer responses).
- Gorgeous (22% fewer messages).
- Cute (24% fewer messages).
- Sexy (13% fewer messages).
Commenting on a woman's looks is the lazy man's approach. It shows you can't even take the time to look at the woman's profile and only care about looks. That's not a great first impression.
You don't necessarily need to tell women you love something. Even something as simple as complimenting her taste in men because she swiped right is a funny way to break the ice.
Make sure your compliment is sincere. Don't force it. Women will know if your compliment is real or if it's phony.
2. Use a clickbait sentence in your message.
A good way to boost responses is by using a curiosity-based sentence in your messages. An easier way to say this is to use clickbait. Yes, clickbait can get you more responses on dating apps.
Here's an example from Tinder. I ask Megan about her taste in wine and share my favorite. Note the sentence, "I discovered THE BEST Cab recently." This is clickbait.
Megan responds to my message but also asks about the Cab. I didn't say the name of the Cab - I give information but not the whole picture.
What the sentence does is create curiosity in the woman's mind. She may think, "I like Cabs too." Because I don't say the name of the brand, the woman may ask about it.
Note that the clickbait sentence is just a hook. The goal is to boost the likelihood a woman responds.
In my example above, I am asking a woman a question. She can answer that or focus on the clickbait. Either way, if I get a response, it's a win-win.
The message flat out works. Below is an example from Coffee Meets Bagel. I ask Rebecca a question about Yoga and mention that I found a great YouTube channel.
In the message above, I don't say the name of the YouTube channel. Rebecca does answer my question, but she asks about the Yoga channel showing the effectiveness of using clickbait.
Inserting a curiosity-based sentence in your message isn't difficult. It does take thought, though. The more of these you do, the easier this approach will become.
Keep in mind, this is an enhancement to your message. Done right, the woman will answer a question you ask or focus on the clickbait. That's why it's there - it's an added hook.
3. Finish your message with the word "right."
A trick that helps get more responses on dating apps is ending your message with the word "right." You want to finish it by asking a question. Below is an example on Tinder.
Pay attention to what I'm doing in the message. Finishing the message with the word "right" is either a yes or no answer. It prompts a response. You see above that Ashley answers my message.
Even if a woman doesn't agree, she may still respond. In the example below from Coffee Meets Bagel, Colette doesn't like my choices and offers an alternative.
You see the power of the word "right." Though Colette didn't like my options, she suggested something else. If I merely wrote a hike or margarita and left it at that, she may not have responded. But finishing the message with "right" got her to respond.
Final Thoughts
It's not too difficult starting conversations on dating apps. Of course, there's no "sure thing" type of icebreaker that works 100% of the time. But you can get more responses on dating apps using a few tricks.
- Start off with a compliment.
- Use a clickbait sentence in your message.
- Finish your message with the word "right."
The tips above are easy to use and can boost the likelihood women reply to your message. Keep them in the back of your mind as you craft your icebreakers. Use them when necessary - they may cause a woman to answer your message.
