Why do women use faceless profiles?
I test apps constantly and come across women with faceless profiles. I see it across every app; OkCupid, POF, Tinder, etc.
Why do women choose to not use photos in their profiles? It can be several reasons:
- The woman may be afraid of being recognized on the app.
- Maybe she hasn't simply gotten to uploading a photo yet.
- She could still be married.
- A woman might be unsure of online dating and dipping her toes in the online dating pool.
- The woman may prefer to be anonymous.
- Some women are looking for their partners who they suspect are cheating.
There are many reasons women prefer remaining anonymous.
When a woman has no photos - Say THIS!
I recommend using a funny approach to starting conversations with women who don't use face pictures in their profiles. Making a woman smile is a surefire way to get a response to your message.
Here is one of my favorite approaches, "Hi (woman's name), why no face pics? Are you in the witness protection program?"
Clearly, I'm playing around in my message. Asking if the woman is in the witness protection program is extreme, which is why it's funny.
Add a smiley face at the end of the message to show you're playing. Below is an example of the message on OkCupid.
A funny icebreaker will get responses.
All I care about with this approach is getting a response. Once a woman responds, you can steer the conversation whichever way you want.

You can see above that the woman tells me why she has no face pictures. Fair enough. After that, I ask her name (note, I share mine), which gets the conversation rolling.
Final Thoughts
Don't ask a woman for photos in your icebreaker if you encounter a faceless dating profile. She won't respond to your message and certainly not send a picture.
It's better to say something funny to break the ice. Use my example above as a reference or create something with a splash of humor.
After that, you can trade a few messages and ask for a photo. Once you establish a good rapport with a woman, she will happily share a picture with you.
