Good Online Dating Advice For Men
What’s the best online dating advice for men who want to meet women on dating sites? 7 critical tips to help guys meet women including tips about photos, messages, and self-summary section.
Are you a guy who falls into any of these categories?
- Not having luck with women on dating sites?
- Do women view your profile and not contact you?
- Do you constantly have an empty inbox?
These are common problems for most men on dating sites but on the other end, there are guys who meet a ton of women, date often, have relationships and get laid like crazy.
The best online dating advice for men is to learn from those who succeed at it. In no particular order, here are 7 things men who are successful at online dating do.
1. Use Appropriate Amount of Words
Men who are successful on dating sites don’t have this in their about me section: “Just ask”, “I’ll fill this out later,” or show zero about themselves.
Take this piece of work:
“Listen music?”. What the hell is that? This shows a complete lack of effort. A woman reading this will think “Wow if he puts this little effort into his dating profile, how much effort will he put into a relationship?”
If you have one sentence in your “About Me” section it shows NOTHING about who you are and women will exit your profile immediately.
At the same time, guys who are successful on dating sites don’t write a novel about themselves listing every detail of their life.
Here is a screenshot of an actual dating profile. I blurred it out but you get the idea. It’s too much information and hurts your eyes just looking at it.
Here is a piece of good online dating advice for you; shoot for 100 – 200 words in your dating profile. Keep it short but not too short. Simplicity is key!
2. Have a Good Username
Another piece of online dating advice for men; choose a good positive username.
Guys who are successful don’t use usernames that look like they just randomly typed keys on their keyboard. “XRYR348” or “5346CXGD” for example. Unless you are trying to meet R2-D2 forget usernames like this.
A bad username isn’t necessarily a deal breaker but it is important.
When crafting your username, stay away from:
- cliche’s
- desperation
- mentioning sex
Just pick a couple of positive words. Brainstorm words if you have to. Use an online synonym tool to get some good ideas.
Creating a cool username is simple. Pick two words and combine them: Adventure + Ninja = AdventureNinja.
There. Your welcome.
3. Avoid Sending Horrible First Messages
The majority of emails men send to women on dating sites are like these:
- “Hi”
- “Hello”
- “How are you?”
- “You are pretty”
- “Hey there”
- “Hiya”
- “What’s up”
The best online dating advice for men is to avoid emailing women messages like the ones above. Guys who are successful NEVER send these type of messages to women.
Think about it, would you ever approach a woman at the gym, the store, or a bar and say “Hi” and just stand there awaiting her response? The answer is no.
So don’t send these type of emails to women:
Guys who crush it online know this. Guys who get tons of dates love it when men send messages like this because they separate themselves from those clowns.
And NEVER tell a woman she’s “hot”, “gorgeous”, or “pretty” in your first message. I go into detail about complimenting women’s looks in another blog post, Why Men Must Avoid Physical Compliments With Women On Dating Sites.
When you email a woman, be sure to comment on something in her profile. Show her you actually read her profile by asking questions or commenting about your shared interests.
4. Use Good Pictures
Men who are successful on dating sites use quality photos that were taken recently. And when I say “recently” I mean taken in the last few months, not years.
No grainy low-res photos should be used in your dating profile. Don’t include women in your photos. Ditch the selfies. And never use half naked bathroom photos.
Each photo you use on your profile should show something about you. People who are successful have several photos on their dating profile showing varied interests, passions, hobbies, and pursuits.
And remember smile!
5. No Boring Descriptions
Most guys have something like this “Hi, I’m Joe Boring and I am a laid-back guy who enjoys going to the beach, making people laugh, Netflix, and getting drinks.” This type of sentence sums up the vast majority of men’s profiles.
If you were to go to Amazon right now and look at the descriptions of a TV it wouldn’t be “displays picture from cable and can surf the web”.
No, the description would be more specific, saying for example:
“VIERA Connect with Built-In Wi-Fi and Web Browser”
“Full HD 120 Hz”
“64.2 pounds”
“57.4 x 2 x 33.3 inches dimensions”
I use this example because women browse dating profiles in the same way. Women want to see more of who you are and not see the same old tired clichés most men use when writing about themselves.
When it comes to dating profiles, another piece of dating advice for men are these points:
- point out your interests
- show some humor
- display some personality
- be confident
Keep these in the back of your mind as you write about yourself and women will be more likely to contact you.
6. Don’t Mention Ex’s or Failed Relationships
Guys who are successful don’t use their profile to rant about ex-girlfriends or ex-wives. Your dating profile is no place to discuss your past failed relationships.
We’ve all been there but this is not the time nor place to share your baggage. Remember these three letters; ABP. This stands for Always Be Positive!
Plentyoffish found that users with positive identifiers in their profile received 23% more incoming messages so it pays to create a positive dating profile.
7. No Pictures Of Kids
The last online dating advice for men, do not use pictures of your kids on your dating profile.
Guys who are successful on dating sites don’t have their kids in their profile pictures. I strongly recommend keeping photos of your children off your dating profile. I covered this in depth in another blog post, 2 Reasons You Should Never Use Photos Of Your Kids On Dating Sites.
If you have kids there is no doubt you love them but there’s no need to post their pictures on your profile. Guys who are successful only post pictures of themselves on their dating profile.
It’s important that you mention your kids in your “About me” section and show you are a proud and loving parent but that’s the extent of it.
You don’t have to go in great depths but guys who are successful mention they are a parent but keep the focus on them in their dating profile.
Online Dating Advice for Men: Final Thoughts
If you are not getting the results you want on dating sites, use the 7 tips above.
In addition to the tips above, here’s another bit of online dating advice for men:
- Step outside your comfort zone when things go stale.
- Tweak your profile to keep it fresh.
- Mix it up with your messages and try different approaches.
I’m amazed at how often men will continue to send the same messages to women over and over and never change their profile yet get frustrated when women don’t email them.
When things aren’t working the way you want online, look at yourself first and change it up.
