Looking For A Clue To Identify Promiscuous Women? Check If She’s A Night Owl

Studies in the past have suggested that being a night owl may be an advantage for individuals seeking “short-term mating strategies“; ie hookups and casual relationships.

People who are night owls have a higher number of sexual partners. Males tend to be night owls more than women.

A recent study however, found that women who are night owls may be more sexually “uninhibited” than women who are early birds.

The study, “Night Owl Women are Similar to Men in Their Relationship Orientation, Risk-taking Propensities, and Cortisol Levels: Implications for the Adaptive Significance and Evolution of Eveningness” analyzed whether “eveningness” was associated with “short-term relationship orientation and higher risk taking.”

“Eveningness” is the characteristic of being most active and alert during the evening. The “short-term relationship” and “higher risk taking” point to casual sex.

Night Owl Study

The study hypothesized that people who stay up later have a greater tendency for “short-term relationships” in both men and women.

501 people participated in the study; 326 were men and 175 were women. The focus of this blog post is women so I will leave the findings of the men out.

The study included a 90-minute test that was used to assess the “risk aversion” tendencies of the participants. Risk aversion is the “reluctance of a person to accept a bargain with an uncertain payoff rather than another bargain with a more certain, but possibly lower, expected payoff.”

The test was given in a stressful environment. To measure the stress level of the test saliva samples were taken before and after the test to determine hormonal changes in the participants.

The participants told the researchers their sleep patterns, relationship patterns, and number of sexual partners.

Other measurable included age, height, weight, smoking and drug use, sexual orientation, and use of contraceptives.

Night Owl Study Results

After analyzing the data the researchers concluded female night-owls were more likely to be single than in long-term relationships and have higher risk-taking tendencies than women who woke up early (SEE PHOTO BELOW).

Promiscuous women are more likely to stay up later and sleep in than those who hit the hay early.

The most obvious explanation; “Women seeking one-night stands do so in the evening, since social activities take place then” plus men tend to be more naturally nocturnal so late-night ladies have a greater number of opportunities for hookups.

Are women who are night owls promiscuous women as a whole?

I will let you be the judge of the results of the study.

I recommend that you don’t email women on a dating site after 11 PM especially on the weekends.

If you are constantly on Match.com or OkCupid at 11:30 it may scare women off because they may think you have no social life or friends.

But…

The findings of the study could apply to the women who are on dating sites late night.

Does this mean that all the women who are up late on a dating site are promiscuous women? No. But studies show that they will more likely have casual sex than women who get up early.
