Walking The Dog Can Get You Chicks!

In case you aren’t aware, walking the dog helps you meet WOMEN!

This according to a study, Domestic Dogs as Facilitators in Social Interaction: An Evaluation of Helping and Courtship Behaviors, which concluded women were three times as likely to give their phone numbers to a guy if he approached them with a dog than if he asked alone.

Four studies in total were done to explore if dogs facilitate closer relationships.

In the first experiment, a man solicited people in the street for money for a bus ride. Sometimes, while waking the dog, the man would ask for bus fare while other times he would ask for money without the dog beside him.

The second experiment was the same except that a female was used.

In a third experiment, a male (with or without a dog) accidentally dropped some coins on the ground, to see if people would help him pick them up.

In the fourth experiment, a man, while walking the dog or without a dog, asked women in the street for their phone numbers.

The fourth experiment is the focus of this blog post.

Walking The Dog Study

The dog used was a mongrel of medium height and weight. Mongrel is another term for a mutt; a dog that doesn’t belong to a breed. The dog was black with a mid-length coat.

240 women were chosen at random while walking alone on the street.

One man was chosen to perform the approach and ask for numbers. He only approached women who were walking alone.

When he approached them he would say the following:

“Hello. My name’s Antoine. I just want to say that I think you’re really pretty. I have to go to work this afternoon, but I was wondering if you would give me your phone number. I’ll phone you later and we can have a drink together someplace.”

Sometimes he would say the pickup line while walking the dog and others he would not.

After saying his pickup line he was instructed to wait 10 seconds and gaze and smile at the woman.

If the woman accepted his offer she was informed that the study and handed a sheet to fill out regarding the study.

Study Results

The results of the study showed that 28.3% (34/120) of the women while the man was walking the dog agreed to give him her phone number while 9.2% (11/120) of women gave the man her phone number when he wasn’t walking his dog.

Thus women were THREE times as likely to give a man her phone number if he approached her while accompanied by a dog.

The study also theorized that using puppies will increase a man’s odds even more.

Conclusion

If you have a dog, get out there and start walking him or her.

You don’t necessarily have to be walking your dog on a street like the experiment did.

You can meet women wile walking your dog at a park, the beach, a hike, dog park, etc… The possibilities are endless.

The point is that women respond positively to men with dogs.

Why?

Dog help “grease” social interaction, the researchers say.

Having a dog increased perceptions of kindness, thoughtfulness, and sensitivity. Qualities women find appealing in guys.
